(I-Canada-News.Com, June 08, 2012 ) La Prairie, Canada - Cert Respiratory Therapist has put together a considerable amount of information which can be used by those looking to embark on a respiratory therapist (RT) career. The website puts a tremendous amount of man hours to comb the internet, and bring to one central location all the details that future students need to know prior to pulling the trigger on a decision that could affect their future.
The profession has seen a spike in demand over the last few years, a demand that continues to grow. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, demand for respiratory therapists is expected to rise by 28 percent between 2010 and 2020. The growth is fuelled by an increase in the elderly populous. In May 2011, the average yearly salary of respiratory therapists was $55,000, with the lowest salaries at around $40,000 and the highest at $74,000.
The job of an RT practitioner is to, under the watch of a physician, analyze and evaluate any respiratory anomalies, as well as determine the appropriate treatment for each. The position can be very demanding on the practitioner; respiratory therapists work in emergency rooms, pediatric care, geriatrics ward, intensive care units, and are constantly working with patients who require immediate attention.
Cert Respiratory Therapist emphasizes that although the payscale makes the profession very attractive to many, it is not for everyone. The job is very demanding and is one of great responsibility with lives on the line.
To become an RT, candidates must undergo formal training in the form of a two-year associate degree. To be accepted to an RT school, the minimum requirement is a high school diploma or GED. Applicants are not required to have any prior college education nor previous experience in the medical field.
The website states that with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii, practitioners must be licensed to work in all other states. Licensing requires both training and a certification test, which is administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
