(I-Canada-News.Com, June 29, 2013 ) Ontario, Canada -- This week, Black Hills State University was proud to announce that fourteen of their photography students were selected as finalists in the Photographer’s Forum Magazine 33rd Annual College Photographers Competition. One of these students, Joe Geyer, also picked up an Honorable Mention. Black Hills State University is located in Spearfish, SD and competes with some of the finest art and photography schools in the nation.
BHSU students have regularly been among the best of the participants in the competition according to BHSU professor of photography Steve Babbitt. “It is clear from their outstanding performance in this year’s Photographers Forum competition and over the past ten years that our BHSU photography students are among the most talented, creative, and hardworking in the country,” said Babbitt. “The BHSU photography program has, over the past eight years, routinely placed in the top ten percent of photography programs in the country participating in the Photographers Forum competition.”
Supported by Nikon camera, the Annual College Photographers Competition receives photo submissions from the top universities and art schools in the world. This year alone, there were more than sixteen thousand photos submitted by over thirteen hundred participants. Of these, only the top five percent of the photos are selected for final consideration. From this five percent, the judges pick one hundred photos for honorable mention.
After learning his photo “Windswept” was selected for honorable mention, Joe Geyer was ecstatic. “I was shocked and excited,” he said happily. “I was actually standing with my professor Jerry Rawlings when I got the letter, and we both kind of freaked out a little.” Geyer is a mass communication major from Rapid City and this is the first time one of his submissions has made it into the prestigious magazine. “Windswept” was an image submitted in the digital photo category.
