(
I-Canada-News.Com, June 21, 2013 ) Kincardine, Ontario -- The International Olympic Committee has announced that cycling will retain the category B status for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The four other Category B sports are basketball, soccer, tennis and volleyball. These high category sports receive greater prestige and a larger portion of Olympic revenue compared to other sports. Cycling received $22 million from the Summer Olympic Games in London.
The high Olympic ranking corresponds with the sport's popularity. Olympic sports are categorized according to the following criteria: television audience (40%), internet page views (20%), general popularity (15%), spectator ticket requests (10%), press coverage (10%) and the number of national federations (5%).
According to some experts, cycling is currently going through another "Golden Age." The sport grew over 40% from 2000 to 2008, according to a report by the League of American Bicyclists. Major cities saw the largest growth.
One of the few drawbacks with cycling is the potential for a flat tire. Guy Pierce, the owner of Geared2U, explains that a
bike pump is "one of the top five bike accessories" a cyclist should own.
Geared2U has released a portable, mini bike pump that is easy to transport. The Pump Me Up! Mini Bike Pump is compatible with all types of bikes and works with Presta or Schrader valves.
"Our Mini Bike Pump is very compact and ultra lightweight to easily fit in your pack, or it can be mounted right to your bike frame with the included mounting system," said Pierce.
The
mini hand pump has an air capacity of up to 110 PSI. A twist-lock handle design prevents the pump from opening when it's not in use, while a dust cap also protects the pump from dirt and debris. Designed by cyclers, the pump comes with a lifetime guarantee.
Geared2U is an outdoor sporting goods company that currently specializes in mini bike pumps. The company plans to offer more products soon.
