(I-Canada-News.Com, April 01, 2013 ) Calgary, Canada -- “A lone shining star” is the moniker added to Calgary when it comes to the Canadian real estate market, according to a report by TD Economics.
Calgary was the only city to report it had positive growth sales in 2012, with 14.3% reported, along with the benefiting of 38.2% in an increase in new-housing starts. Those numbers show a large rebound in from 2011, according to the report.
Canadian sales had dropped by 10.5% in 2012, with Vancouver seeing a 26.6% decrease, while Edmonton saw a 4.1% decrease. Saskatoon and Winnipeg also had drops in their overall sales, with 5.5% and 6.9% respectively.
"Stability in Calgary; fragility in Vancouver," says a chart documenting Vancouver's haywire average house prices.
The residential building permit totals were up in the west of Canada, which signaled more upcoming projects for 2013, while Calgary's market conditions have seen an overall positive momentum shift. Population growth is still low, and lowered unemployment rates in Winnipeg and Saskatoon have remained better than the national average. All of which is signifying an overall positive turnaround for the country. The metros are coming back strong after the difficult recession period, according to the report.
"A happy west side story," is one way to put it, as seen in the report.
