(EMAILWIRE.COM, October 24, 2011 ) Southampton, UK -- New Forest has a wide variety of activities from forest walks to extreme sports for all ages of visitors to enjoy.
New Forest National Park, located near Dorset on the south coast of Hampshire and nearby Wiltshire, offers many different activities for visitors to the area. It has unique local events and festivals, wonderful camping and outdoors activities, and a variety of sports.
The New Forest National Park is one of the UKÂ’s 13 designated national parks. This area has been a vacation spot for centuries and was once the hunting ground of
of the British royalty. Today itÂ’s a large park area that contains a number of small towns and villages, as well as wild camping areas full of wildlife.
Activities at the park include cycling, hiking, guided tours, camping, horseback riding, fishing, boating, golf, combat games and much more. Cycling is the parkÂ’s most popular. In recent years, the Forestry Commission has been adding new off-road cycling routes to meet the increasing demand and also to protect the forest.
With its open feeling and wonderful views, walking is also a popular activity. Guided walks allow visitors to explore the area in more depth with one of the park’s ‘Rangers.’ Special guided tours such as the fungi walks, which explore local mushrooms, are also held.
The area has long been known for its fabulous horseback riding.
New Forest offers pony trekking and courses at its horse riding schools. The park has adopted its own New Forest Horse Riding Code to ensure safety for both visitors and the environment.
Located in close proximity to the national park is the Calshot Activity Centre, one of the UKÂ’s largest adventure sports facilities. It provides quite a contrast to the forestÂ’s serene, natural beauty.. The Centre is ideal for visitors who prefer more activity in their holidays. It offers windsurfing, power boating, archery, indoor skiing, canoeing and more. It has the areaÂ’s largest climbing complex and its only indoor velodrome.
Many activities are also offered by the Moors Valley Country Park, which is located within
the New Forest. There’s a large sandpit for children to play in and an old-fashioned steam railway. Moors Valley is home of the unique Go Ape experience, which is a ‘tree top adventure’ full of fun activities for the whole family.
The festivals and events at the park run throughout the year. The main event is the New Forest Show, which has hundreds of vendors selling handmade crafts and other goods. This event attracts nearly 100,000 people each year. Other festivals and events include farmers markets, special hikes, art exhibitions, car shows, and fireworks displays.
Many of these activities can be enjoyed during just a day trip to the area. There are a number of
New Forest accommodation options available for visitors who want to make a holiday of it. New Forest accommodation offers everything from 5-star bed and breakfasts to rugged wilderness camping.
