(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 22, 2016 ) Sarasota, Florida -- Recently, life expectancy in the US rose to an all-time high of 78.74 years. However, a study spearheaded by Dr. Steven Woolf in 2013, and published by The National Academies Press, discovered that Americans of all ages up to 75 years old have shorter lives and have more illnesses and injuries in contrast to their peers abroad. Tuvizo recognizes that proper diet and regular exercise are the keys to living longer.

Japan currently prides itself with the highest "healthy life expectancy" at 73 without any major illness or disability, according to a 2013 study lead by Professor Theo Vos of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. The Japanese owe their longevity to their diets which are rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and fish.

Daily consumption of the seven "super" foods in controlled portions can help reduce heart disease by 75 percent thus adding an average of six years to one's life. These foods include red wine, dark chocolate, garlic, and nuts. "The dark chocolate and fruits and vegetables lower your blood pressure. Garlic and nuts lower low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. Fish helps protect against cardiac arrhythmias, blood clotting, and inflammation," Dr. Ralph Felder, M.D., said

In addition to a nutritious diet, an active lifestyle is also fundamental to longevity. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends adults ages 18 to 64 to engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity workouts each week.

According to a research led by the National Cancer Institute in 2012, leisure-time physical activities increase life expectancy by as much as 4.5 years. "We must not underestimate how important physical activity is for health - even modest amounts can add years to our life," said I-Min Lee, M.D., Sc.D., professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and senior author of the study.

There is no secret to longevity. However, there are ways to keep the body and mind strong and healthy through the years. With a well-balanced, nutritious diet and an all-around workout routine, living longer is indeed possible.
