Nutriden Announces Omega 3 Relieves SAD Symptoms

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 20, 2015 ) Calgary, AB -- Nutriden, a privately held Nutraceuticals company, wants Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, sufferers to know that Omega 3 has been proven to relieve symptoms of the disorder. This is amazing news for many people throughout the world. According to Psychology Today, seasonal affective disorder is estimated to affect 10 million Americans. Another 10 percent to 20 percent may have mild SAD and it is more common in women than in men.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is a mood disorder affects people during the fall and winter months of the year. The symptoms of SAD include irritability, tiredness or low energy, fatigue, problems getting along with other people, hypersensitivity to rejection, oversleeping, appetite changes, especially a craving for foods high in carbohydrates, and weight gain. Symptoms can also include those of major depression: feeling depressed most of the day, nearly every day; feeling hopeless or worthless; losing interest in activities once enjoyed; having difficulty concentrating; and/or having frequent thoughts of death or suicide. As the name of the disorder suggested, it is related to seasonal changes, starting for most in the fall with symptoms letting up in the spring and summer months.

SAD is treated by light therapy, also called phototherapy, which mimics outdoor light. By adding omega 3 fatty acids to diet and exercise routines those that are affected by seasonal affective disorder are adding another level of protectiveness against it, as studies show Omega 3 fatty acids obtained through fish oil can relieve the symptoms of depression.

In one study at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, the effect of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation was studied in 49 patients with repeated episodes of harming themselves. The study subjects were randomly assigned to receive 1200 mg EPA plus 900 mg DHA, or placebo, for 12 weeks. At the end of the treatment period, the group receiving omega-3 fatty acids had significantly greater improvements compared with the placebo group in scores for depression and daily stresses.
